Advancing Evidence-Based Practice in Parenting Support

In our continued commitment to promoting effective, research-informed childcare and parenting programs, Mama Children’s Village, represented by Ms. Estella Kabagaya, recently participated in a course on Designing Evidence-Based Parenting Interventions at Makerere University.

The training focused on how to design, implement, and evaluate parenting interventions that are rooted in evidence and tailored to the unique social and cultural contexts of local communities. It explored practical strategies for understanding caregiver needs, measuring program outcomes, and ensuring that interventions have a measurable and sustainable impact on families.

Reflecting on the experience, Ms. Kabagaya noted that the course provided valuable frameworks for strengthening the organization’s ongoing initiatives — particularly the daycare programs established in Nakawa, Kalerwe, and Kamwokya markets, as well as community trainings that support caregivers’ social and emotional wellbeing.

“The course was a timely reminder that compassion and evidence must go hand in hand,” she shared. “When our programs are informed by data and lived experiences, we create interventions that truly transform families and communities.”

Through opportunities like this, Mama Children’s Village continues to invest in building internal capacity and aligning its work with global best practices — ensuring that every child and caregiver reached through our programs benefits from approaches grounded in both heart and evidence.
