At Mama Children’s Village, we believe that when caregivers are supported, children thrive — and so do communities. Recently, we had the privilege of conducting a Training of Trainers session for community leaders and caregivers from Nakawa, Kalerwe, and Kamwokya markets, focusing on the social and emotional wellbeing of caregivers.
These trainings are part of our ongoing effort to strengthen the daycare centers we’ve established in these busy market areas. Many of the mothers who work there bring their children to the markets every day, balancing long hours of selling with the demands of parenting. The daycare centers were created to give these mothers peace of mind, knowing their children are in a safe, nurturing environment while they work.
Through the training sessions, we equipped caregivers with practical skills to manage stress, foster positive relationships, and provide emotional support to the children under their care. It was inspiring to see how eager the participants were to learn and to share their own experiences.
As I watched these caregivers exchange ideas and encourage one another, I was reminded that true community transformation starts with empathy — with seeing and supporting the people who nurture our children every day. This initiative is a small step toward creating a network of emotionally aware, confident caregivers who can make a lasting difference in the lives of the children they serve.
