A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of leading a team from Mama Children’s Village to visit the women’s section at Luzira Prison. Our focus was to spend time with mothers who are raising children under the age of three within the facility — offering social and emotional support, encouragement, and a reminder that they are not alone in their journey of motherhood.
What moved me most was the strength and tenderness of these women, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Many shared their stories with tears and gratitude, while their little ones played nearby — a powerful reminder that every child, no matter where they are born or raised, deserves love, care, and a sense of belonging.
During our visit, we also donated essential items to help the mothers care for their children — small things that make a big difference in their daily lives. The smiles and relief we witnessed reaffirmed our mission at Mama Children’s Village: to stand beside caregivers, uplift families, and ensure that every child has the best possible start in life.
This experience reminded me that compassion is not limited by walls or circumstance. It lives in the act of showing up, listening, and extending kindness — one mother, one child at a time.
